Interviewer: And the response back home, what are they saying?
Chris: I think they're happy. I think they're proud. I think sometimes they get a little upset with me because I do talk about Clovis, California - where I'm from - as being a conservative town. But, I mean, I grew up there. It's always going to be home. They're proud of me. I know they are.
Interviewer: It seems like it was a solid background for performing arts.
Chris: It really was. I don't think I could've picked a better upbringing. And I was very, very fortunate because I went to a high school with an extraordinary performing arts department. We got to do two shows a year, we had a full orchestra with every musical, we had amazing sets. It was great to be a part of such a great performing arts academy.

Chris: I know what it's like to be a duck in a swan-filled pond, if you will.
Interviewer: In what ways?
Chris: I was definitely an outsider when I was in high school. I was probably the only person that was serious about getting into theatre arts after high school. I was just very different from the rest.
Interviewer: And were you greeted warmly for being an outsider in your high school?
Chris: Not very warmly, no. No. I was definitely an outsider, and I was made sure that I knew I was an outsider.
